Overview
Kedarkantha Trek: A Classic Himalayan Summit
Standing tall at 12,500 ft in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal region, the Kedarkantha Trek is a 5 day journey that perfectly balances challenge and beauty. Known as the best winter trek in India, it offers pine forests blanketed in snow, wide-open meadows, and a summit climb that rewards you with a 360° view of Himalayan peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Black Peak. It’s the kind of trek that makes beginners fall in love with the mountains and keeps seasoned trekkers coming back.
Starting from Sankri, the trail winds through dense pine and oak forests, frozen streams, and open clearings that turn into dreamy campsites under starlit skies. In winter, the snow adds a fairytale charm, while in summer, the forests and meadows burst alive with greenery and wildflowers. Every day on the trail feels like a perfect postcard moment.
Kedarkantha Trek Package: What to Expect
Think of it as a 5-day Himalayan adventure where every day brings something new. You’ll hike through snow-covered forests, climb to high-altitude meadows, and finally push for the summit, where the sunrise will make the cold climb worth it. Peaks like Swargarohini and Black Peak watch over you as you learn basic trekking skills, from pacing yourself on steep sections to camping in the wild.
To make the experience even more unique, we offer a slightly different itinerary from the usual crowd. Instead of joining the rush for a sunrise summit, we take you on a sunset summit climb, watching the golden light spill over the peaks is an unforgettable sight. The day ends with a peaceful night trek back to camp, far away from the usual trail traffic, giving you a quieter, more magical Kedarkantha experience.
With guides, meals, and permits sorted, you can focus on the experience, learning about local life, sharing stories around the campsite, and building memories that last longer than your phone’s battery. For beginners, it’s a friendly introduction to trekking, for veterans, it’s a refreshing reminder of why they keep coming back.
How to Prepare for the Kedarkantha Trek
This trek may be beginner-friendly, but the summit climb is steep, so prepare your body with some cardio, squats, and light strength training. A strong pair of trekking shoes, a warm jacket, gloves, headlamp and a raincoat are non-negotiables. Keep your backpack light but functional: first aid kit, sunscreen, refillable bottle, and snacks you’ll actually eat mid-way.
If you don’t own all the gear, Sankri has rental shops where you can pick up trekking poles and anything else you require. With the basics sorted by your trek package, your main job is to pace yourself, enjoy the crisp pine-scented air, and remember the golden rule, carry your waste back. The mountains will thank you!Read More
